Fear of the dentist stops as many as one in five Americans from getting routine dental care. This includes undergoing much-needed dental procedures. Anxiety and fear should never keep you from improving your oral health. That’s why Snödental is excited to provide our patients with IV sedation!
IV sedation (or intravenous sedation) refers to the process of administering sedative drugs directly into the bloodstream before dental treatment. This is a form of conscious sedation, the middle ground between complete awareness and unconsciousness during treatment.
Before treatment, your dentist might recommend that you abstain from eating or drinking anything for at least eight hours. When you come in for the procedure, the dentist will administer the sedative agent and be observant of your vitals. You’ll begin to feel the soothing effects of the drug almost immediately. Although you won’t be fully unconscious, the procedure will feel vague and distant.
Although IV sedation can be beneficial to almost anyone suffering from dental anxiety, there are certain health conditions that could prevent you from undergoing the treatment and your age might call for smaller doses. Always talk to your doctor before receiving IV sedation.

Makes the procedure easier to execute for the dentist
Almost instant effects.
Because IV sedation is administered directly into your bloodstream, you can expect to feel a deeply relaxed sensation almost immediately. You will remain conscious for your procedure and aware of your surroundings, although some procedural amnesia is not uncommon.
