What are Tooth Infection Symptoms?

When the soft area in the center of the tooth, known as the pulp, becomes infected, root canals are a necessary treatment. If you have any of the below symptoms, you may need a root canal.

What Happens During a Root Canal Procedure?

As we’ve said, your root canal procedure will actually be fairly simple. It won’t be too different from your average filling. The first step will be drilling an access hole into your infected tooth, which will allow Dr. Witt to remove the infected pulp and thoroughly clean out the surrounding area. Once that’s completed, he will seal the tooth and fit it with a crown to keep it strong and durable.

When your root canal procedure is over, your mouth will still be numb for a couple hours, but you’ll be able to return to work or school immediately! You may feel some initial discomfort, but here’s what you can look forward to:

What to Expect

1 Appointment

A typical root canal procedure should only take one appointment in most cases. If the tooth is very infected, it might take two. In this scenario, we’ll remove the infected pulp in the first appointment, then clean and fill it when you come see us again.
